Muntha and the year lord
Munthā advances one sign from the birth Ascendant per completed year. Varṣeśa, the year lord, is selected separately from five annual-chart offices. Mạghā displays Muntha, its sign lord and the year lord together in the Tajik view.
From natal Libra, 32 completed years are two full twelve-sign circuits plus eight signs. The eight steps end in Gemini, retaining 0 degrees 45 minutes 38 seconds. Gemini is the seventh whole-sign house from the annual Sagittarius ascendant.

Advance one sign for each completed year
Keep the degree of the natal ascendant and move its sign forward by the completed age. Twelve years make a complete circuit, so ages 12, 24 and 36 bring the Muntha back to the birth ascendant’s sign. The age-zero position is the natal ascendant itself.
Nila’s natal ascendant is Libra 0°45′38″. At 32, two full circuits account for 24 years and eight more signs lead from Libra to Gemini. Her Muntha is therefore Gemini 0°45′38″, with Mercury as its sign lord. This diagram follows that saved example; the house number comes from the annual ascendant, rather than from the birth chart.

Read the house together with its lord
The Muntha’s sign comes from age, but its house changes with the annual chart. Nila’s annual ascendant is Sagittarius, making Gemini the 7th whole-sign house of that return. It is the 9th sign from her natal Libra ascendant. Those two house counts answer different questions and should not be interchanged.
In a Tājika reading, the Muntha’s house directs attention to a life area, while its lord adds another layer through its own position and relationships. A 7th-house Muntha invites attention to partners and dealings with other people; it does not, by itself, promise a marriage or predict a separation. Mạghā’s glance card gives the annual house and sign, with the Muntha lord beneath it.
The Sun-sign lord is Mercury, natal ascendant lord Venus, Muntha lord Mercury, annual ascendant lord Jupiter and day tri-rashi lord Saturn. Mercury and Venus sextile the annual ascendant, Jupiter has no aspect and Saturn squares it. The app selects Saturn; Mercury occupies two offices.
| Office | Planet | Aspect to Lagna |
|---|---|---|
| Sun-sign lord | Mercury | Sextile · friendly |
| Natal Lagna lord | Venus | Sextile · friendly |
| Muntha sign lord | Mercury | Sextile · friendly |
| Annual Lagna lord | Jupiter | No aspect |

Compare five offices before reading the year lord
The five offices bring the birth chart and return chart together: the Sun’s sign lord for a daytime return, the natal ascendant lord, the Muntha sign lord, the annual ascendant lord and the tri-rāśi lord. At night, the Moon’s sign replaces the Sun’s and the night tri-rāśi table applies. Day or night belongs to the return moment at the return place.
A planet can hold more than one office. In Nila’s daytime sample, Mercury appears twice, alongside Venus, Jupiter and Saturn. Mạghā’s comparison shows each office separately, its source sign, aspect to the annual ascendant and strength components. The selected office is marked explicitly. The diagram records those displayed offices and relationships without treating five offices as five different planets.

In Mạghā, open your chart and choose Tajik. The Annual view starts with “Year at a glance”: Varṣa Lagna, Varṣeśa and Muntha. Open “Compare 5 candidates” beneath “How Varṣeśa was selected” to inspect the offices. Each card includes its Lagna relationship and the components used in the displayed strength score.
The prepared 2026 sample selects Saturn through the day tri-rāśi office and displays “Malefic Lagna aspect” as its selection reason. Here, malefic describes the aspect category used by the app; it is not a verdict on the whole year. Read the selection alongside the return chart, the Muntha and other annual factors. The preview reproduces this sample’s displayed result, rather than calculating a visitor’s chart.
Questions about the Muntha and the year lord
Is Muntha in the 8th house bad?
Traditional readings associate the 8th house with strain, vulnerability and change, but the house alone is not a prediction. The Muntha lord and the rest of the annual chart provide context. A single placement should not be used to predict illness, death or a particular event.
What is the Muntha lord?
It is the planet ruling the sign occupied by the Muntha. In Nila’s prepared 2026 chart the Muntha is in Gemini, so Mercury is its lord. That is a different role from the year lord, which Mạghā displays as Saturn in this sample.
Is the Muntha the same as the Varshesh?
No. Muntha is a moving zodiacal point; Varshesh or Varṣeśa is the selected planetary year lord. The Muntha’s sign lord holds one of the five offices considered for the selection, so the two subjects are connected without being interchangeable.
Does the Muntha change every year?
Its sign advances once for each completed year of age, retaining the natal ascendant’s degree. It completes a circuit in twelve years. Its house in an annual chart also depends on that year’s ascendant, so a repeated sign need not mean a repeated annual house.
