What is the D10 chart?

Daśāṁśa divides each sign into ten portions and is traditionally studied for authority, position and professional life. Read D10 with the birth chart; a career also depends on skills, opportunities and decisions.

Calculation examples

How is the D10 chart calculated?

Each 30° sign is divided into ten portions of 3°. In odd-numbered signs, counting starts from the same sign. In even-numbered signs, it starts from the ninth sign. Count forward through the zodiac.

For Aries, the count begins with Aries. For Taurus, it begins with Capricorn. A position at 11° lies in the fourth portion: 11° Aries becomes Cancer in D10, and 11° Taurus becomes Aries.

The examples follow the standard method used by Mạghā’s shared chart calculation.

Work, responsibility and standing

The classical description concerns power and position. In a contemporary reading, this is often explored through work, responsibility and a person’s public role.

The question may concern a craft, independent practice, service or organisational work. D10 does not restrict a person to one job title, and a prominent placement is not a guarantee of promotion or recognition.

Reading D10 alongside D1

Start with D1 and the planets involved in the work-related question. Then study the D10 ascendant and its ruler, along with the relevant houses, dignities and planetary relationships.

Compare the two charts before drawing a conclusion from an isolated placement. Use an accurately recorded birth time, especially when the ascendant is near a divisional boundary.

These are traditional interpretations. A chart should not substitute for assessing experience, opportunities or the terms of a real job decision.
