Karaṇa Caturaśīti Sama Daśā
Karaṇa Caturaśīti Sama Daśā gives seven planets twelve years each, totalling 84 years. Its starting input is the birth karaṇa, or half-tithi. This differs from the similarly named nakṣatra-based system; neither lunar node receives a period.

The birth karaṇa sets this 84-year cycle in motion
The sequence runs Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn, returning to the Sun. The birth karaṇa determines where a particular chart enters that order and how much of its opening period has passed.
Nila’s saved cycle opens with Venus before birth, in August 1987. Saturn follows in August 1999, the Sun in August 2011 and the Moon in August 2023. The equal bar widths show the equal 12-year allocations.

Use the karaṇa seed when comparing period systems
A karaṇa changes more quickly than a lunar mansion. Selecting this system therefore answers a different timing question from choosing a nakṣatra-seeded daśā, even when some planetary names and period lengths are shared.
Keep the birth details, calculation settings and chosen system visible when comparing timelines. An 84-year cycle is the system’s allocation of periods, not a prediction of how long someone will live.

Each mahādaśā opens into seven equal sub-periods
A mahādaśā is the main period; an antardaśā is a smaller period inside it. In this system each 12-year mahādaśā divides into seven equal shares, beginning with its own lord and continuing in the same order.
The second diagram opens Nila’s Moon mahādaśā, August 2023 to August 2035. At the sample’s fixed reference date, 12 September 2026, Mars is the active antardaśā, running from May 2025 to January 2027.
Questions about Karaṇa Caturaśīti Sama Daśā
Is this the same as Caturaśīti Sama Daśā?
Both allocate 84 years as seven 12-year periods. This variant uses the birth karaṇa as its seed; the nakṣatra-based system uses a lunar-mansion count.
Why can the first period begin before birth?
Only the balance of the opening period remains at birth. The timeline includes its earlier portion so that the full period length stays visible.
Can I enter my birth details in the preview?
