What is the D27 chart?

Bhāṁśa, or Nakṣatrāṁśa, divides each sign into 27 portions. Traditionally studied for strength and weakness, D27 offers another arrangement of the birth positions. It is not a fitness assessment or a measure of personal worth.

Twenty-seven portions of 1°06′40″.

Calculation examples

How is the D27 chart calculated?

Each portion spans 1°06′40″. The starting sign depends on the source sign’s element: fire starts from Aries, earth from Cancer, air from Libra and water from Capricorn. Count forward from that start.

At 11°, a position lies in the tenth portion. Aries is a fire sign, so 11° Aries maps to Capricorn in D27. Taurus is an earth sign, so 11° Taurus maps to Aries.

The calculation panel enlarges the relevant portions so their sequence remains readable.

Strengths and areas of difficulty

Classical descriptions connect D27 with strength and weakness. An astrologer examines how the planets support or complicate the question being studied, taking the whole arrangement into account.

Everyday language such as persistence or difficulty can help explain a reading, but it should not become a diagnosis or a fixed label applied to a person. A single placement cannot establish someone’s capabilities.

Reading D27 alongside D1

Begin with the relevant indications in D1. Compare those planets with the D27 ascendant, its ruler and planetary condition, looking for repetition rather than treating the divisional chart as a score.

Check the birth time and the calculation method before interpreting small differences. D27’s portions are narrower than those of the more commonly used D9 chart.

These are traditional interpretations, not medical findings or objective measurements of a person’s strengths.
