What is the D3 chart?
Drekkāṇa divides each zodiac sign into three parts and traditionally concerns siblings and family relationships. This guide follows Mạghā's “D-3 · Parashara” method, derived from the same birth positions as D1.
Three portions of 10°.

Calculation examples
How is the D3 chart calculated?
Each 30° sign is divided into three portions of 10°. In the Parāśara method, the first portion maps to the original sign, the second to the fifth sign from it, and the third to the ninth. Count the original sign as the first.
The three portions of Aries therefore map to Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Those of Taurus map to Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. A position at 11° Aries falls in the second portion and becomes Leo in D3; 11° Taurus becomes Virgo.
Mạghā also names other Drekkāṇa methods in its chart menu. These examples and the preview use Parāśara throughout.

Siblings and shared beginnings
Classical accounts connect Drekkāṇa with siblings. That gives D3 a place in questions about the relationships through which people grow up alongside one another.
Shared beginnings do not imply identical lives. An astrologer reads the arrangement as a whole, considering both supportive and difficult relationships among the planets rather than assigning a fixed role to a brother or sister.

Reading D3 alongside D1
Start with the relevant relationships in D1, then examine the D3 ascendant, its ruler and the planets connected with the question. Look for repeated patterns across the two charts.
Use the same Drekkāṇa method when comparing results. The smaller divisions also make the ascendant more sensitive to the accuracy of the recorded birth time.
These are traditional interpretations, not judgments about a sibling or guarantees about a family relationship.
