Dvisaptati Sama Daśā

Dvisaptati Sama Daśā gives eight lords nine years each, forming a 72-year cycle without Ketu. Parāśara prescribes it when the Ascendant lord occupies the seventh house or the seventh lord occupies the Ascendant. Mạghā displays dated subdivisions.

Nila Raman's eight Dvisaptati Sama periods, from Jupiter to Mercury, with Rāhu current on 12 September 2026.

Eight equal 9-year bars run from March 1994, seven and a half months before birth, to March 2066: Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rāhu (current, March 2021 to March 2030), Sun, Moon, Mars and Mercury.

Counting from Mūla picks your first planet

Count inclusively from Mūla to the birth nakṣatra, modulo eight. Remainders 1–7 give Sun through Saturn in weekday order; zero gives Rāhu. Moon progress sets the opening balance. Nila's Dhaniṣṭhā gives count 5, Jupiter, with 6.9% elapsed: about 8 years 4½ months remain. The sample begins March 1994, followed by Venus in 2003, Saturn in 2012 and Rāhu in 2021, ending March 2066.

Parāśara ties it to the ascendant and the 7th house

Parāśara applies this 72-year system when the Lagna lord occupies the seventh house or the seventh lord occupies the Lagna. Nila's Libra chart would qualify with Venus in Aries or Mars in Libra; her Venus is in Libra and Mars in Cancer, so it does not qualify. Her schedule demonstrates arithmetic only. Where applicable, each nine-year period is judged by its lord's strength and placement.

Mạghā lists it under Graha Daśās as Dwisatpathi

Select Dwisatpathi, the app's label, under Graha Daśās. Eight dated periods expand through Mahādaśā, Antardaśā, Pratyantardaśā and Sūkṣma. Equal nine-year lordships make equal eighths at each subdivision. Mạghā uses 365.2564-day years and your chosen ayanāṁśa, defaulting to Lahiri.

The app does not test Parāśara's applicability condition. It lists one 72-year cycle, ending 63–72 years after birth; afterward no period is current.

Nila's Mercury antardaśā inside Rāhu ends in October 2026

On 12 September 2026, the reference date, Nila Raman is in her Rāhu period, which runs from March 2021 to March 2030. Its eight antardaśās (sub-periods) begin with Rāhu and keep the cycle's order: Rāhu, Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn.

Each is 9 years divided by eight, 1.125 years or about 411 days. Nila's Mercury antardaśā began in late August 2025 and runs to mid-October 2026, when Jupiter's begins; Saturn's closes the period in March 2030.

In Mạghā, the division repeats at every level: each antardaśā holds eight pratyantardaśās of about 51 days, and each of those holds eight sūkṣmas of about six and a half days.

What people ask about Dvisaptati Sama Daśā

What does Dvisaptati mean?

Dvisaptati is Sanskrit for seventy-two, from dvi (two) and saptati (seventy). Parāśara lists the system as dvisaptatisamā and calls it the daśā of seventy-two years, the total of its eight 9-year periods.

Which charts does Dvisaptati Sama Daśā apply to?

Parāśara gives it to charts in which the ascendant's lord occupies the 7th house, or the 7th lord occupies the ascendant. A Taurus ascendant qualifies with Venus in Scorpio or with Mars in Taurus, for example. Most charts meet neither condition.

How does Dvisaptati Sama differ from Caturaśīti Sama Daśā?

Both are conditional, equal-period daśās whose first lord comes from the Moon's nakṣatra. Dvisaptati gives eight lords, the seven planets and Rāhu, 9 years each (72 in all), counted from Mūla, when the ascendant's lord is in the 7th house or the 7th lord in the ascendant. Caturaśīti gives seven planets 12 years each (84 in all), counted from Svātī, when the 10th lord sits in the 10th house.

Is there a book on predicting with Dvisaptati Sama Daśā?

Manoj Pathak's Predicting Through Dwisaptati Sama Dasha (Vani Publications) studies the system at book length. Parāśara's own rules fill three verses of his daśā chapter.
