What is the D20 chart?

Viṁśāṁśa divides each sign into twenty portions and traditionally concerns worship and spiritual practice. D20 rearranges the same birth positions as D1. It does not measure faith or establish a person's spiritual worth.

Twenty portions of 1°30′.

Calculation examples

How is the D20 chart calculated?

Every portion spans 1°30′. The starting sign is Aries for movable signs, Sagittarius for fixed signs and Leo for dual signs. Count forward from that start.

This order differs from D16, so the two calculations should not be mixed. At 11°, a position occupies the eighth portion: 11° Aries maps to Scorpio in D20, while 11° Taurus maps to Cancer.

The diagrams highlight the relevant portion within the full sign rather than compressing twenty labels into one line.

Worship and steady practice

The classical association is with worship. It gives D20 a place in readings about devotion, study and the practices through which a person expresses a spiritual commitment.

These practices take different forms in different traditions and households. A chart cannot establish that one person’s devotion is more authentic than another’s or promise a particular spiritual attainment.

Reading D20 alongside D1

Begin with D1 and the question being explored, then consider the D20 ascendant, its ruler and the relationships among its planets.

Look at the arrangement as a whole and keep the birth-time record in view. A small change to the time can alter a divisional ascendant without changing the broader D1 sign.

These are traditional interpretations. The meaning and practice of a spiritual life remain personal and cannot be reduced to one placement.
