Tamil Porutham Matching
Tamil Porutham compares ten traditional factors using the partners' birth stars, Moon signs and associated classifications. Mạghā presents each comparison with its result and explanation, so you can read the factors behind a proposed match.
Ten comparisons, each with its own matching rule. Birth-star counts, Moon signs and rulers, and birth-star classifications supply the inputs.

| Sthree Dheergha | The required separation counted from the bride's birth star to the groom's |
| Yoni | The relationship between the birth stars' animal symbols |
| Porutham | What it compares |

What the ten Poruthams compare
Each Porutham applies its own rule. Some examine the distance between birth stars; others compare Moon signs, planetary rulers or traditional star groupings.

Read the individual Poruthams
A count of satisfied Poruthams gives an overview. The individual results explain which comparisons satisfy the selected rules and which deserve further attention.
The importance assigned to particular Poruthams can vary between traditions. Reading the results alongside the complete charts gives a fuller understanding of the matching method.
These are traditional astrological comparisons. They do not establish health, lifespan or a guaranteed marriage outcome.

How Tamil Porutham is calculated
The calculation begins with both partners' birth details, from which their Moon signs and birth stars are determined.
The method applies the relevant star-counting rules, sign relationships and classification tables to the ten Poruthams. Each comparison produces its own result.
Mạghā presents the Tamil results in their own table. The North Indian Ashtakoota result remains a separate 36-point comparison.
Questions about Tamil Porutham
Which birth details are used?
Use each person's date, time and place of birth, with the correct timezone. These establish the Moon signs and birth stars used for the comparisons. If a birth time is uncertain, check whether the uncertainty could change a required input.
Why can different Porutham tools give different results?
Traditions may apply different counting rules, classifications or exceptions. Confirm that both calculations use the same birth details, settings and matching method before comparing their results.
Is a Porutham count equivalent to a score out of 36?
The Tamil count records satisfied Poruthams. Ashtakoota uses eight weighted factors with a maximum of 36 points. Read each table according to its own method rather than converting one total into the other.
