Calculation examples
How is the D40 chart calculated?
Each portion spans 45′, or three quarters of a degree. In odd-numbered signs, counting begins from Aries. In even-numbered signs, it begins from Libra. Continue forward through the zodiac, repeating the sequence as needed.
At 11°, a position occupies the fifteenth portion. Counting from Aries gives Gemini for 11° Aries; counting from Libra gives Sagittarius for 11° Taurus.
The enlarged calculation examples show the chosen portion without crowding forty labels into the panel.

Supportive and difficult indications
Classical descriptions give D40 the study of auspicious and inauspicious effects. These terms belong to a traditional reading of planetary condition and relationships.
An astrologer compares the indications rather than treating one placement as a final answer. Different modern schools give D40 additional associations, but those should be identified by their own methods rather than presented as the only classical meaning.

Reading D40 alongside D1
Establish the question in D1 and compare the relevant planets with their D40 placements. Study the divisional ascendant and its ruler as part of the whole arrangement.
Accurate birth time becomes especially important for the ascendant at this level of division. A precise-looking drawing cannot remove uncertainty from the original input.
These are traditional interpretations, not guarantees of good or bad events. Use D40 as one part of a wider reading.
